Late night opening on Saturday evening…
Since 2009, on Saturday as of 7:00, the bric-a-brac traders also deploy their stand on the 6 km of the circuit in the streets of the village. On Saturday and Sunday night there will be around 1200 exhibitors.
The Temploux bric-a-brac trade is a bric-a-brac trade: neither a street market nor a discount shop but a bric-a-brac trade: the organizers reject the « false » antique, exotic items, and foreign craftsmen, modern furniture or paintings. You will not find a hot dog or French fries stand every 50 meters, the organizing team is in charge of the food and beverage stands (about 10 of them on the circuit).
This is probably the reason for the success of Temploux, it became over the years, the biggest bric-a-brac trade of the country. Some even say that the event is unique in Europe.
Antiques, bric-a-brac trade or flea market? If we talk about antiques, we refer to the nice scarce item, almost unique or considered as such; it is presented by the seller as a real unique creation. The bric-a-brac trade refers to items that are supposed to have been used for something: an old lamp in copper, a series of glasses from Val, medical devices from the beginning of the century, etc. And finally, the flea market, it is often the old junk: a collection of beer glasses, a rusty bike… In Temploux, you will find everything!
Of course, the bric-a-brac traders make good deals. Of course, the visitors will probably find what they are looking for, but on top of that, everyone will enjoy the circuit composed of village streets, the smell of the barbecue, pizzas or pancakes, and above all, the diverse crowd (Belgians, Dutch, Germans, French, Swedish, and Americans...). The atmosphere in the village is festive! Around midnight, the sky of Temploux will be lit up by fireworks. Then gradually, the exhibitors close their stand and the village goes to sleep.
But on Sunday… as of 7:00, the bric-a-brac traders open their stand and the sales start again.
The festivities will continue all day long : games, contests and musical animations will be organized throughout the afternoon.
Under the marquees, about ten stands enable everyone to enjoy a meal for a reasonable price; there are more than 2.000 seats. An open restaurant in the village hall serves a gourmet menu (it is safer to book in advance). Finally, those who want a longer and more relaxing break can stop in the green area of this small village located at the border of the Hesbaye and the Condroz.
For Saturday from 7:00 till 17:00, spaces can be booked for the price of 3€ per square meter (VAT included). For a space from Saturday 18:00 until Sunday 18:00, the price is 4€ per square meter (VAT included). For a space for both days, from Saturday 7:00 until Sunday 18:00, the price is 7€ per square meter (VAT included).
